Is Freshly Juiced Vitamin Drop Right for You? Who It’s For — and Who Should Skip It

Dear, Klairs

Vitamin C is one of the most over-promised ingredients in skincare. So here’s an honest look at the Freshly Juiced Vitamin Drop: who a gentle, lower-strength vitamin C really suits — and who should skip it. What it is, in one minute A 5% pure vitamin C (ascorbic acid) serum — a lower strength than many vitamin C serums, chosen for gentleness. What else is inside: yuzu (Citrus junos) fruit extract and centella asiatica. One honest note: the ingredient list includes orange oil and lavender oil (plus limonene, a natural component of citrus oils). It isn’t fragrance-free. Best used at night, with sunscreen the next morning. It’s a good fit if… You’re new to vitamin C and want to start low instead of jumping to 15–20%. Stronger vitamin C serums have stung and you want a gentler strength. (See is low-percentage vitamin C effective?) You want brighter-looking, more even-looking skin over time, and you’re patient. You don’t react to essential oils or citrus. Gentleness was tested, not just claimed. The formula went through irritation testing on general and sensitive-skin panels, a cumulative irritation and sensitization test, and non-comedogenic testing, and its antioxidant activity was measured in the lab. A beginner routine is here: a beginner vitamin C routine for sensitive skin. Skip it — or choose something else — if… You avoid fragrance or essential oils. It contains orange oil and lavender oil. If fragrance has irritated your skin before, this isn’t the vitamin C for you. (More on labels: fragrance-free vs. naturally scented.) You want a high-strength vitamin C. 5% is deliberately gentle. If your skin already tolerates 15–20% well, this may feel too mild. Your skin is irritated right now. Any pure vitamin C can tingle on a compromised barrier. Calm skin first, then start slowly — see gentle vitamin C for reactive skin. You expect overnight results on dark spots. Vitamin C works gradually over weeks. It won’t fade spots in days, and it isn’t a treatment for melasma or other pigment conditions. You won’t wear sunscreen. Brightening routines need daily SPF to be worth doing. How to use it Use at night: after toner, apply a few drops and pat in. Follow with moisturizer. Sensitive skin: start every other night, or mix a drop into your moisturizer at first. Wear sunscreen every morning. Keep it closed and cool, away from sunlight. Some yellowing over time is normal oxidation; if it turns deep orange, replace it. How to tell: has my vitamin C serum oxidized? FAQ Is Freshly Juiced Vitamin Drop fragrance-free? No. Its ingredient list includes orange oil and lavender oil, plus limonene. If you avoid fragrance or essential oils, choose a different vitamin C. What strength of vitamin C is it? 5% pure vitamin C (ascorbic acid) — a deliberately gentle, beginner-friendly strength. Can I use it in the morning? We recommend night use. Whenever you use it, wear sunscreen during the day. Why did my serum turn yellow? Vitamin C oxidizes when exposed to air, light and heat. Slight yellowing is normal; a deep orange color means it’s time to replace it. Can I use it with retinol? It’s gentlest to use them on different nights, especially at first. If your skin stings, pause both and let it settle. Who should avoid it? Anyone sensitive to fragrance, essential oils or citrus, and anyone whose skin is currently irritated, should skip it or patch test carefully. Note: figures come from cosmetic clinical/consumer studies measuring the appearance and feel of skin. They are not medical claims; individual results vary; not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any condition. Always patch test.
